Headache & Migraine – why you get them and how to treat them holistically

Headache and migraine are unfortunately one of the most common wellbeing complaints that I come across in my practise. As with any physical health or wellbeing concern, it is important to get to the underlying cause in order to prevent constant reoccurrence.  If we just keep taking painkillers we are ignoring the message that our body is sending us about something that needs to be dealt with on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. In this video I discuss how to determine the root causes of headache and migraine as well as how to go about managing and treating the problem in a holistic way so that you can reduce the frequency and severity - and perhaps even prevent - future episodes. I talk about things that you can do from all aspects of Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing - Food, Movement, Sleep, Surroundings and Being. Essential Oils can be extremely helpful when dealing with Headache & Migraine.  In my own home I do not have pain-killers in the first aid kit because I find that oils are more beneficial and less harmful for my family than medications. The ones that I find best are: Peppermint Past Tense If you'd prefer to read the full text of this Blog, rather than watching the video, it was published by Sivana East. Tell the Truth for the sake of your Wellbeing

How often do you show and tell your authentic self to the world? So often in this modern world of social media we only share the good stuff, which is really not a true depiction of our whole selves and what we think and feel and have to say. My prediction is that there will be ever-increasing numbers of people with emotional, mental and physical issues that stem from imbalance in the Throat chakra, which is the energy centre associated with Truth - being authentic, being open and making decisions. The Throat is the 5th Chakra out of 7 – the 7 main energy centres that we all have, and where our bodies (on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) are especially open to receiving energy. The areas of the physical body where throat chakra imbalances manifest are: Throat and thyroid conditions Thyroid conditions Fast or slow metabolism and weight management issues Very large or very small appetite Very large or very small mouth Regular indigestion and/ or bad breath Super fast or super slow eating style Ear and nose problems Heightened or reduced senses of taste, smell, or hearing Problems with teeth or jaw (including TMJ pain) Neck pain Dry, chapped lips In the video I discuss other personality, mental and emotional signs of throat chakra imbalance, as well as ways that you can bring balance back

Fire Up your Wellbeing

This is the third of my Blogs focusing on the holistic health view Chakras and this one is all about the 3rd Chakra - the solar plexus energy centre - which governs our overall sense of Power, Energy and Balance.💥💛🍋🌞 If you would prefer to read the full piece instead of, or as well as, watching the video, it was published by Sivana East. We have 7 main energy centres in the body.  These energy centres operate on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Different systems call the energy centres different names, but almost all traditional systems of medicine recognise these energy centres as well as other minor energy centres, and energy pathways. In my practice I refer to the energy centres as the Chakras – which comes from the Indian tradition.  Many energy healers work with the Chakras. Chakras are areas where the body is very open to receiving energy, from all sources. When it becomes imbalanced the flow of energy into the chakra is depleted or even prevented.   Each chakra governs and works with specific areas of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.  To get your FREE copy of my Chakra Balancing Ebook click here. Balance in any of the Chakras works on a spectrum, so if you can relate to extremes in any of these areas you may have an imbalanced 3rd Chakra: how energetic you feel in

Mould: the phantom menace

Many very common symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, respiratory congestion and brain fog can be caused by a silent and often-undiagnosed household toxin - mould! This video discusses how and when to look into whether mould may be causing your wellbeing issues and what to do about it.  If you would prefer to read my Blog on the topic, it was published by the Wellness Universe. This topic falls into one of the aspects of Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing - Surroundings.  I also cover some simple steps to take to reduce the risk of mould becoming a problem in your home: Open up: open doors and windows as often as possible, fresh moving air is the enemy of mould! Clean regularly: vacuum and dust, change linens Dehumidify: if you live in a humid climate, or your home has been diagnosed as damp, a dehumidifier will help to reduce the moisture build up that mould loves Indoor plants: plants naturally remove toxins from the air, and of course they also produce oxygen so they will make a big improvement on the quality of the air in your home (or workplace) Use essential oils: NB. definitely do not use artificial air fresheners – they are literally adding toxins into your surroundings by masking unpleasant smells with chemicals. Tea tree oil is anti-fungal and has a beautiful fresh aroma, it is literally

Science behind Energetic Balance

Have you ever wondered how and why undertaking energetic ‘healing’ practices actually does work?  A couple of weeks ago it was National Science Week and I was celebrating the fact that for the first time in 10 years I didn’t have to oversee a primary school science fair project! Sometimes I hate my kids growing up but not in this regard!  Anyway to mark the occasion I thought that it might be useful to give everyone a bit of a refresher on the science behind my two favourite tools for energetic balance – reiki and aromatherapy. Basically it comes down to understanding that everything is energy.  This is basic physics and the stuff that Einstein ‘discovered’. It can be hard to get our heads around the fact that even those things that we think of as ‘solid’ are in fact all made up of minute and constantly moving particles of energy.  That includes us human beings! When becoming a reiki practitioner I was trained and attuned to tap into the energy that is all around us all of the time. It makes total sense that if you can tap into more of the stuff that we are all made of and direct it to where you are lacking in energy, wellness or balance, you will feel better!  Think of it like any other ‘gap filler’ – when you have to mend

Total Lunar Eclipse – the chance for emotional rebirth!

On 27th/28thJuly we had our second Blood Moon for the year.  This is a Total Lunar Eclipse, and just like in February 2018, it followed a New Moon Solar Eclipse in the same month!  We are in the middle of ‘eclipse season’ for 2018 and this means lots of energy abounding, but not necessarily action-oriented energy, especially with a current Mars retrograde (meaning that the action-stimulating energy of Mars is reversed) and a new Mercury retrograde (meaning that it is sometimes better not to take action especially if it involves something to do with travel, communication or technology!) Full moons are generally about closing off things you have been doing during the ‘yang’ action oriented half of the month and turning your focus inwards. What do you need to work on and consolidate within yourself now until the next New Moon phase?  What happened for you, or what did you begin, around the new moon (13thJuly)? A total lunar eclipse, which means the emotional energy of the moon is blocked out, gives us the opportunity to reset our emotions, releasing any emotional baggage, especially that which has built up since the February eclipse. Letting Go Full moon energy, and especially eclipse energy can give us a great opportunity to decide to let go of something that no longer serves us, or instead to choose to let that thing ‘be’ and

The Power of Pain

This video on the Power of Pain was recorded during National Pain Week (23-29th July 2018). In it I discuss the following aspects of pain: its purpose the metaphysical point of view my own recent experience with it treating it holistically with reiki using essential oils to treat it The Essential Oils I talk about Essential oils also work on all energetic levels of the body and provide a beautiful take home tool (for those not trained in Reiki!) to continue their treatment.  Essential oils all have a particular emotional journey that they help us to move along, which is perfect when we want to tackle the underlying emotional causes of our pain, without even necessarily knowing what they are. Interestingly all of the essential oils that have strong analgesic (pain killing) properties also help us with being emotionally stuck, constricted, fearful or controlled, which is so important when we remember that pain is giving us a message to stop and reassess something in our life. My top pick is Rosemary because it is strongly analgesic and also helps to eliminate emotional restrictions that prevent us from moving toward our higher purpose. Other oils that are useful here are: peppermint (especially where you need focus), fennel (especially where you feel unfulfilled), ginger (especially where you feel depleted), lavender (especially where you feel neglected), marjoram (especially where you feel anxious), and

The Essentials to Boosting Immunity Naturally

If you’ve heard in the media that there is a shortage of flu vaccine perhaps now is the time to consider some natural alternatives to boosting your immunity for the winter. 5 Steps to Boost Immunity Food – eat immune boosting foods and drink lots of water. In winter we want to balance the cold weather by eating and drinking warm things.  The benefits of chicken soup are not an old wives’ tale!  Bone broth is so nourishing and healing.  Remember that the majority of your immune system lives in your gut so you need to give it whole foods from the earth that it recognises and can obtain the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that it requires for you to heal you. As well as bone broth make sure you include good fats from olive oil and oily fish, dark chocolate (yey!), eggs and lots of fruit and vegetables of all the colours of the rainbow!  For immune boosting flavourings you can’t go past garlic, ginger and turmeric – veggie curry is sounding good! Movement – don’t stop your exercise routine just because it’s winter.Your lymphatic system, which is critical to fighting illness cannot operate effectively without muscular contraction, as it removes wastes and toxins.  So keep on moving peeps!  You might change your exercise routine with the seasons just like you change your food. Perhaps now is the time to

Misconceptions about Miscarriage

I wrote this in this week after Mother’s Day because I wanted to acknowledge those women who have found that conceiving and giving birth to a child is not necessarily an easy thing. You may have experienced the very difficult birth of a now healthy child or you may have lost a child during birth, or you may have lost a child before it was even born through miscarriage.  All of these experiences are traumatizing.  Literally, this is a trauma that will remain a part of your story for the rest of your life. I know because I have been there myself.  I had 3 miscarriages in total, two before my now oldest son was born and one in between my two ‘successful’ pregnancies, when I was trying to fall pregnant for the second time.  I was lucky in that my losses came very early, all within the first trimester. For the first two I was overseas – the first one happened in China and the second in the UK.  When I had my second miscarriage my then husband was all the way back in Australia for work, but luckily my brother and his new wife were living in Scotland so they took the train down to London to be with me. I think that the biggest problem with miscarriage or stillbirth is that not only are you grieving a loss for
