How to find love Love is at your centre, your very core. There you go, I gave you the answer right at the beginning! For, no, this is not a piece about dating, or tips on falling in love...but please keep reading. True to my purpose to investigate and uncover what lies beneath, this is about the roots of love. It's about going back to what needs to happen before you can extend unconditional love to another human being (through choice rather than biology). This is about the underlying cause of why love is missing, and the original source of self love. This is about the energy of love. Where do you feel love? You don’t even need to think about the answer do you? Did your hand stray to the middle of your chest? Did you re-live that feeling of fullness, of goodness bursting out that you have when you’re so happy in the company of those you love? Or perhaps, what came back instead was the ache, the heaviness, the emptiness that you feel when something makes you sad, or lonely, or hurt. Those imprinted feelings that you have. In your heart. I wonder if you know these things about your heart: Your heart was formed and began beating in your mother's womb before your brain developed. It has its own nervous system, consisting of around 40 thousand
Just an easy one for this month’s blog! But in all seriousness, really the main reason that people end up in front of me in my Holistic Health & Wellbeing studio is that they have a problem with relaxation. When you don’t relax and you’re in a constant state of stress your brain thinks your life is in danger and your sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, freeze) remains in charge. When your parasympathetic nervous system (rest, digest, be) does not get its shift being boss, certain parts of you will go on strike because they never get a break. Yep I brought this up last Blog as well (Boost your Self Confidence). I believe that the chronic activation of the sympathetic nervous system is a massive health problem in the modern western world. And that was before Covid-19! A global pandemic makes it pretty darn hard for anyone to relax, even if they are normally pretty chill! It’s the lack of control and the great unknown of all aspects of our future lives, nothing able to be planned, nothing to look forward to… What happens when you don’t relax enough Well you remain in a state of freeze, fight or flight, almost permanently! This means that: your blood pressure stays up your digestive system does not work well your heart rate remains elevated blood flow to everything other than skeletal muscles
In world where it is so easy to constantly compare yourself to others and the ‘ideal’ portrayed online, it is pretty common to spend a lot of time feeling like you are coming up short. Unfortunately the human brain is designed to focus on the negative 2.5 times more than it focuses on the positive. This is a protective mechanism. The brains of our ancestors were designed around their need to be constantly aware of potential physical dangers and react accordingly to enable the survival of the species. Now, the reality is that if you don’t have as many followers, or as many likes, or as many photos of your “amazing” family posted for the whole world to see, your life will not end, you will not be physically maimed, but the way your mind and body react to this situation is the same. Your brain thinks you are ‘in danger’. It sends stress response signals to your body, preparing it for fight or flight. The same is true when the 24 hour news cycle gives you a stream of negative information, especially during a global pandemic. Added to which there are indeed tangible physical dangers that your brain has to compute – the virus, the restriction of freedom, the potential loss of income and all the add on impacts of that which actually can impact your physical survival. So many of you have told me that you’d just like to get your energy and balance back and that was before we were hit with a global pandemic! Writing this in March 2020 it was very easy to choose to bring a focus to the first type of energy – and one that many people do need to replenish anyway – Foundation Energy. This energy forms the basis of everything in physical life: the body safety and security sense of belonging. It relates to our fundamental need and ability to survive and forms the basis on which all other aspects of our life – creativity, emotions, power, self worth, love, truth, insight and connection - develop. As such, it is the Foundation Energy to which we need to pay attention in matters of immunity. Even if you have a beautifully balanced and intact Foundation – be extremely grateful because you are in the minority – at this time in human existence when we face a pandemic that in big ways or small, will affect us all. Headache and migraine are unfortunately one of the most common wellbeing complaints that I come across in my practise. As with any physical health or wellbeing concern, it is important to get to the underlying cause in order to prevent constant reoccurrence. If we just keep taking painkillers we are ignoring the message that our body is sending us about something that needs to be dealt with on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. In this video I discuss how to determine the root causes of headache and migraine as well as how to go about managing and treating the problem in a holistic way so that you can reduce the frequency and severity - and perhaps even prevent - future episodes.
