This video on the Power of Pain was recorded during National Pain Week (23-29th July 2018). In it I discuss the following aspects of pain: its purpose the metaphysical point of view my own recent experience with it treating it holistically with reiki using essential oils to treat it The Essential Oils I talk about Essential oils also work on all energetic levels of the body and provide a beautiful take home tool (for those not trained in Reiki!) to continue their treatment. Essential oils all have a particular emotional journey that they help us to move along, which is perfect when we want to tackle the underlying emotional causes of our pain, without even necessarily knowing what they are. Interestingly all of the essential oils that have strong analgesic (pain killing) properties also help us with being emotionally stuck, constricted, fearful or controlled, which is so important when we remember that pain is giving us a message to stop and reassess something in our life. My top pick is Rosemary because it is strongly analgesic and also helps to eliminate emotional restrictions that prevent us from moving toward our higher purpose. Other oils that are useful here are: peppermint (especially where you need focus), fennel (especially where you feel unfulfilled), ginger (especially where you feel depleted), lavender (especially where you feel neglected), marjoram (especially where you feel anxious), and
Many of us don’t have enough play in our lives. I am certainly guilty of this! It’s mainly being self-employed that does it for me – I find it hard to prioritise play! I don’t skimp on spending time to look after my wellbeing – I take all the time necessary to shop for and cook fresh organic food to nourish myself, I spend 1-2 hours exercising most days, I am pretty careful to ensure that I get enough good quality sleep and I keep my surroundings as toxin-free as possible. But I don’t prioritise doing stuff just for fun. If I make a commitment to catch up with friends then I will always stick to that but I rarely initiate catch-ups myself these days. I always make sure that I have some quality time with my kids – dinner time conversations, going to the footy, seeing movies we all want to see. But when I am left to my own devices I will spend every possible minute working! I am lucky because I do actually love what I do and am very passionate about it but I don’t love that I would feel somewhat guilty if I took a day off to go bushwalking or I spent the night just binge watching Netflix or taking an hour to have a bath. Ironically I began writing this piece and then got
The theme of Men’s Health Week 2018 (11th-18thJune) is “Men & Families – making healthy connections”. I love this multi-faceted theme! We can take from it that improved family connections can improve the health of men (and women, for that matter), that family can be very influential on the wellbeing of men, and that the emotional wellbeing of both men and women is dependent on connection with other humans and finding the right tribe. Unfortunately it seems that men in general are not nearly as good at making and sustaining healthy connections as women are and this is one of the contributing factors to men’s health being overall a lot worse than women’s health. Men die younger, have more preventable diseases, more accidents and a greater risk of lifestyle related disease than women, which is why Men’s Health Week is a thing! Men seek advice and interventions for symptoms at a rate that is much slower and less frequent than women, almost certainly contributing to their higher rates of disease and early morbidity. What we really want everyone to do is to work on prevention and looking at underlying causes, rather than just band-aid solutions and treating symptoms. Western culture dictates that men should be outwardly strong, independent and largely silent about what is going on inside of them on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Men are
Winter Solstice Yin Yoga, Meditation and Reiki Circle Event I am so delighted to be teaming up with Vicky K Mind & Body to bring you this special evening to celebrate the winter solstice! The winter solstice is really the most Yin point in the year! Everything is energy and that energy has two opposing and complimentary components – yin and yang. Yin energy is the cooler, darker, more reflective, inward focused, passive and feminine side. And it is the side that we tend to ignore in modern Western culture! So we are giving you an evening to tap into the yin within and honour the pause. Places are limited and filling up fast! Bookings are essential! Look forward to seeing you there! Evenstar Wellbeing Moving and Expanding Many of you are aware that I sold my beautiful home in Yarraville a few months ago and will sadly be relocating out of this fabulous area in July. Therefore I will no longer be able to practise out of my gorgeous home studio, so I am thrilled to announce that from July 2018 I will be working out of Feeling Healthy, at 69 Anderson Street, Yarraville on Tuesday afternoons and evenings, as well as every second Saturday afternoon. As I will no longer be living in the wonderful West myself my availability for in person sessions will be more limited. However, I will also
Secrets of that illusive thing called work-life balance that you'd love to know! Recorded on the eve of International Women's Day, watch this video to hear tips from women who are succeeding in their quest for better work-life balance as they #pressforprogress, and also how women are driving the adoption of a wellness culture in their workplaces. Taking time out for ourselves as women, especially when we play many roles including mother, partner, daughter, friend on top of the role we play in order to earn money, can be very difficult. But if you stop to think about what would happen if you collapsed in a heap because you hadn't been looking after yourself then everything is put into perspective. Looking after yourself is actually the least selfish thing that you can do! If you'd prefer to read all about it Kochie's Business Builders published my article 4 Reasons why Small Business need a Workplace Wellness Strategy in March. To get back some energetic balance and wellbeing why not book a session with me now! Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to chat more about how work-life balance is affecting your wellbeing.
This Blog was written for one of the most sugar-filled times of year - Easter (2018)! That particular Easter marked the anniversary of me quitting sugar and I want to share with you the science behind our relationship with sugar, especially as a continuation of my earlier video on the gut-microbiome (check out the Gut-Brain Connection). Yes, you guessed it, the bacteria in your gut could have a lot to do with your relationship with sugar! Around Easter 2017 I did a webinar on the Wild Diet (a type of paleo diet) and watched That Sugar Film and realized that I needed to make a change and significantly reduce my sugar intake (which was a lot lower than many people to start with!) If you want to read all about that process then please check out That Sugar Blog. World Health Organisation guideline on sugar More than 3 years ago now the World Health Organisation put out a new guideline recommending that people reduce their intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake, with less than 5% (roughly 25 grams) being even more highly recommended as beneficial to health. So what are ‘free’ sugars? This term refers to any sugars that have been removed from their naturally occurring source, and are not consumed as a part of a whole food. Free sugars therefore include any sugars added to
Do you find yourself constantly saying "I don't have time" or "I can't afford it" in relation to things that you know are good for you? So what do you spend your precious time and money on instead? This video will explain that if you don't invest in your wellbeing now, you will most likely pay the price with illness or injury later on. This is the ultimate choice that we make in relation to investing in our wellbeing! In order to make change in our lives it is beneficial to start from a state of energetic balance and reiki will help you to achieve this. A couple of the chakras (energy centres) are really crucial in effecting change. The 3rd chakra is all about our get up and go, motivation and commitment. The 6th chakra is involved in having a clear mind and being able to make decisions easily. Reiki will enable these chakras to be balanced and in flow. Book an appointment now! Motivate essential oil blend is also a powerful support tool for any change process that you may be going through. Have you ever wondered why some places just don’t feel right to you? Why you really get the heeby jeebies whenever you have to go to Auntie Maud’s or you will do anything possible to get out of going to a particular shop? Do you sometimes get a craving to get yourself into a big park or down to a beach? Surroundings is one of the aspects of Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing (the others being food, movement, sleep, and being). This means that even if you do all the other 4 right, you are still missing a major piece of the puzzle if you don’t spend the majority of your time in surroundings that are right for you. What are your Surroundings? In this context your Surroundings are literally whatever it is that surrounds you. Obviously on any given day you will most likely spend time in several different environments. All of your senses are involved in determining how you feel about an environment – what can you see, smell, touch, and hear within a space. Do you find those things agreeable? Something as simple as a particular colour dominating a room can completely change your energetic response to that space. Why do our Surroundings affect us? It comes back to science! Everything is energy and everything is therefore made up of tiny particles of constantly moving matter. Every matter has its own frequency and if your own core
You may think on a conscious level that you're over something that caused you sadness, anguish, fury or frustration and yet change is just not happening in your life? The problem is that often we hold onto the past on an unconscious and cellular level and whilst this is happening there is just no room for new positivity to move in as a replacement! Heart Chakra I wrote this Blog in the week that had Valentine’s Day, rapidly followed by the New Moon Solar Eclipse and thus was a big week for heart energy. The heart chakra (one of the 7 energy centres found at all levels of the body – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) is the fourth chakra and is commonly recognised as the energetic centre of love. This refers to your ability to both give and receive love. What is less commonly known though, is that the heart chakra is also strongly associated with your ability to let things go. To let go of people, situations or things that no longer serve you. This is all about letting go once you have processed your sadness, grief, and/ or anger on a conscious level. (For more information about dealing with grief check out my Blog on that topic.) New Moon New Moons are always about sowing new seeds, putting things in place to make change. But of course it
Find out why you might be feeling low in energy, depressed, anxious or even having serious allergic and inflammatory health conditions such as asthma, and the simple practice that could really improve your wellbeing and make you feel very grounded: grounding or earthing. My journey into being grounded began with learning more and more about the First Chakra as I found that so many of my clients were unbalanced in this energy centre. Humans are naturally meant to connect with the planet earth and modern life makes this even more important due to all of the positively charged electrical energy that we are exposed to almost constantly. This video explains the basics of this concept, as well as my own personal experiences. If you are interested to learn more then you may like to read the Earthing book or have a look at the Earthing Institute website. Reiki offers many of the same benefits of grounding or earthing. If you would like to experience this for yourself feel free to contact me with any queries or Book an appointment now!
