How to get more Energy from Food

Here at Evenstar Wellbeing I’m all about energy, and food is the energy that we consciously and deliberately put into our bodies.  It is literally fuel for living, for every aspect of our lives.  So, if you enjoy living a good life, or you’d like to live a better one, the number one action that you can take is to pay attention to what you are fuelling your body, and your life, with.  It’s a sad fact that many people in the modern western world treat their motor vehicles better than they do their human vehicles! Whole Foods The simplest thing to keep in mind when deciding to focus on your food energy is to eat food.  Yep, simply eat food.  Don’t put things into your body that are in fact ‘food-like’ substances (ie. highly processed, packaged products) that we’ve been conditioned over the last few decades to think of as food.  Your body actually doesn’t know what to do with a fuel source that it doesn’t recognise.  How do you know if something you’re putting in your mouth is food? Creation Energy – Emotions and Creativity

Creation Energy is the second type of energy that I work with (there are 7 in total).  To find out more about the first energy type – Foundation Energy – check out the Blog here. Creation Energy is the one that underlies everything in our emotional lives: partnerships and close relationships with other beings fully engaging with the whole range of emotions in the human experience the expression of our creativity. This energy is the one that pertains to the continuation of humanity through our innate ability to create new life and is sometimes called our ‘sexual’ energy.  It fully develops in the second decade of life, during which we become sexual beings, after going through puberty. Letting the full range of human emotion flow through our lives is not something that is valued, encouraged or celebrated in western society and so this energy is one that many people are somewhat lacking in. The equivalent vibration to Creation Energy in colour is Orange and the equivalent elemental substance is water, and thus this energy is strongly connected to the moon and lunar cycles. The Magic of Movement

One of the 5 aspects of Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing is Movement. I prefer the word ‘movement’ to the word ‘exercise’ for numerous reasons, not least of all because the word ‘exercise’ seems to polarise people into 2 groups - Those who love it and can’t live without it, and Those who hate it and see it one of life’s many evils that they try to ignore as much as possible. Also the fact is that the human body is designed to move. It’s not necessarily designed to do 5 HIIT classes a week but it’s definitely not designed to sit at a desk 8 hours a day and sit in a car or on a train for 1 hour either side of that. One of the many problems with the modern western lifestyle is that it involves very little movement and as a result the population is becoming more and more unhealthy, with lifestyle factors a major contributor to increasing chronic disease levels. As I write this, we are in the midst (well really just the beginning according to the experts) of the COVID-19 Pandemic and this is having a huge impact on human movement. Foundation Energy – The Root of Immunity and Getting Your Energy and Balance Back

So many of you have told me that you’d just like to get your energy and balance back and that was before we were hit with a global pandemic! Writing this in March 2020 it was very easy to choose to bring a focus to the first type of energy – and one that many people do need to replenish anyway – Foundation Energy. This energy forms the basis of everything in physical life: the body safety and security sense of belonging. It relates to our fundamental need and ability to survive and forms the basis on which all other aspects of our life – creativity, emotions, power, self worth, love, truth, insight and connection - develop. As such, it is the Foundation Energy to which we need to pay attention in matters of immunity. Even if you have a beautifully balanced and intact Foundation – be extremely grateful because you are in the minority – at this time in human existence when we face a pandemic that in big ways or small, will affect us all. Plastics. Could they be impacting your health?

Plastic.  It's everywhere these days because it is so convenient.  Cheap to produce (a petroleum bi-product), strong, light, easy to clean and literally indestructible. But as with many 'indispensable' things that modern society has adopted due to their convenience, plastics are not only having a massive impact on the health of the planet (through production pollution and at the other end of their lifespan, as waste) but they are also contributing to the ever growing epidemic of lifestyle diseases through their affect on hormones. Plastics - hormone disruptors Some of the chemicals used to manufacture plastics are hormone disruptive, with phthalates and BPA being the worst offenders. Please also refer to my Blog On the Nose in regards to phthalates in synthetic fragrances.  What does hormone disruptive mean, and why does this even matter, after all a lot of the time hormones get a pretty bad press?  In actual fact hormones are vital chemical messengers that coordinate the processes of growth, metabolism and fertility.  In addition, hormones help to control the immune system. Hormone disruption can mean several things, including that the chemicals (such as BPA and phthalates): mimic hormones, interfere with the production of hormones, prevent the effective utilisation of hormones, cause generalised inflammation (due to immune system compromise) and they can also impede the detoxification processes required with excess hormones. On the Nose: health risks of synthetic fragrances

In this video I discuss the world of synthetic fragrances, and specifically the dangerous chemical that is used to make these fragrances last longer: phthalates. When you think about it synthetic fragrances are all around us! There are the obvious things like perfume, after shave, deodorant, air 'fresheners' and scented candles.  (When it comes to scented candles please have a look at my Blog The Glow of Wellbeing) And then there are the less obvious things like cleaning products, beauty products, personal care products, and laundry products, which all come with fragrance that definitely does not come from any natural source (like actual pine needles in your 'forest fresh' toilet cleaner!) Lastly there's the downright ridiculous things such as scented toys, stickers and even garbage bin liners - like some fake lavender scent is ever going to overtake the smell of your 3 day old household waste!! Antibiotics and looking after your gut

Your gut microbiome is super important to overall health and is the first topic in this new video series called "One Thing I Know".  Your gastrointestinal microbiota ("gut microbiome') consists of trillions of bacteria that reside in the digestive tract.  They are imperative for effective digestive function and also for immunity.  At any point your gut microbiome are either increasing or decreasing overall inflammation in your your body.  Inflammation is the natural response of the body to fight infection and disease but when it becomes disregulated chronic illness can result. I am constantly updating my knowledge by reading books and listening to podcasts and taking courses.  A big part of my whole reason for doing what I do is to help people to be better able to improve and maintain their own wellbeing so therefore I love to be able to share new things that I learn.
