Exam Prep, the 5 Star Way

Exam Prep, the 5 Star Way Here in Australia we’re getting to the pointy end of the academic year, and thousands of our young people are about to go into a different kind of lockdown - the lockdown of exam prep! 2020 has been such a difficult year, especially for those in their final year of high school, like my oldest son. And no where have they had it as tough as we have here in Melbourne, Victoria. So this year more than any other I wanted to share some ideas for helping your loved ones, or yourself, through the exam prep period and of course the exams themselves. Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing™ is the approach to holistic health that I have developed and it brings in everything that is essential for you to be as well as you possibly can be: Food, Movement, Sleep, Surroundings and Being. So, let’s look at exam prep with this approach. Food Caffeine Make sure that you keep your caffeine intake to a minimum. A couple of cups of tea or coffee a day is okay but don’t let it become too many more. Perhaps more importantly, enjoy your caffeine in the morning and then swap your usual afternoon caffeinated hot drink for a herbal tea or lemon juice in hot water. Caffeine has a half life of 12 hours (ie. half of the

How to Relax – 15 ideas to help you

Just an easy one for this month’s blog! But in all seriousness, really the main reason that people end up in front of me in my Holistic Health & Wellbeing studio is that they have a problem with relaxation. When you don’t relax and you’re in a constant state of stress your brain thinks your life is in danger and your sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, freeze) remains in charge. When your parasympathetic nervous system (rest, digest, be) does not get its shift being boss, certain parts of you will go on strike because they never get a break. Yep I brought this up last Blog as well (Boost your Self Confidence). I believe that the chronic activation of the sympathetic nervous system is a massive health problem in the modern western world. And that was before Covid-19! A global pandemic makes it pretty darn hard for anyone to relax, even if they are normally pretty chill! It’s the lack of control and the great unknown of all aspects of our future lives, nothing able to be planned, nothing to look forward to… What happens when you don’t relax enough Well you remain in a state of freeze, fight or flight, almost permanently! This means that: your blood pressure stays up your digestive system does not work well your heart rate remains elevated blood flow to everything other than skeletal muscles

New Year Lunar Eclipse Meditation and Ritual

We honour, respect and give our thanks to the spirits and guardians of this place, where we will carry out this New Year Lunar Eclipse ceremony of meditation and ritual, as well as its traditional custodians past, present and future. The January 2020 full moon is in the sign of Cancer, at the start of a new year and a new decade. Not only is it a full moon but also a lunar eclipse, which occurs when the earth lies between the moon and the sun blocking the moon from reflecting the sun’s light. It is a penumbrial lunar eclipse on this occasion which means there is not a perfect line up of the planets (stars) and only part of the moon’s bright orb will be shadowed. The moon loves being in Cancer as the ruling planet of this sign, and in 2019 there was not actually a full moon in Cancer. This, combined with the extra energy of the eclipse, will result in a very potent lunar energy available to us. Cancer is a sensitive water sign and rules emotion, especially the heart, as well as family relationships. The releasing energy of the full moon should mean that working with it will help to heal hearts and balance family and home dynamics.  Cancer also governs self care so it is the perfect time to set intentions around looking after

Taurus Full Moon October 2018: letting go of what is comfortable

October's Full Moon (on the Thursday 25th in Australia) is in the sign of Taurus which gives it a bit of a different flavour to the general full moon energy that supports us to finish, close off and let go of things that no longer serve us.  Taurus likes to hold on and not to look too deep! Find out what to do about this so that you can clear the decks for the next four weeks, for change and growth to occur in any area of your life. If you'd prefer to read my article on the topic, it was published by Sivana East. I offer Meditation & Healing Circles at each of my locations every month to help you get in touch with all energetic levels of your body - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual - and access what you need to let go of.  These are small group events to promote healing and relaxation through meditation and energy balance.

Fear of Flying

Is this you?   I get no kick in a plane Flying too high with some guy in the sky Is my idea of nothing (I want) to do… (with thanks to Cole Porter)   Getting on a plane with great regularity is a way of life for many people. Despite the fact that we all have mobile phones, the internet, Skype, Zoom, there is nothing quite like eye-balling someone in the same room as you, or shaking their warm hand, to help you feel at ease and close the deal! So what happens if you actually hate the flying part - if you get so anxious about the trip itself, not the deal you need to do at the other end, that you sleep badly, you can’t eat, you feel nauseous, you sweat profusely, and you can’t look at anyone else on board lest they should suggest that you be prevented from travelling because you look like a terrorist?! Then there are also those who have family or close friends in another part of the world but who they are desperate to see but they just can’t face the idea of the plane trip to get there. Fear of Flying is pretty common, and like most things, lies on a spectrum from just can’t do it (full stop) through to make yourself do it all the time but hate

Top 3 Excuses for not Meditating, and how to overcome them

You probably keep hearing how meditation is so good for you and hopefully you also keep thinking to yourself “I really should start doing that”?! So what is stopping you? This blog is about the Top 3 Excuses for not Meditating that I hear from my clients when I suggest that it would be a good idea for them to consider meditation as a tool to improve their wellbeing.  More importantly I will tell you how to overcome these excuses! Why should you meditate? So, what are you missing out on by not meditating? Meditation has been around for thousands of years and now been scientifically proven to be good for us! It is not just some hippie, woo woo practice that people in flowing purple robes do on mountain tops! Many of the world’s most successful people – think Tony Robbins, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, Clint Eastwood – all practice meditation! Why? Because meditation makes you better at life!! (I stole that from Emily Fletcher, meditation teacher to the stars at Ziva Meditation in New York). Neurologists have now been able to prove that meditation actually changes the structure and function of the brain – for the better! – including improving the connections between the right and left hemispheres. In today’s world we use our left brain way more than the right – we are always trying
