We are now halfway through the astrological year (which began back in April with Aries Season). We have done all the hard work of perfecting things during Virgo Season and now we’re ready for the peace, harmony and romance of Libra Season. Sounds lovely doesn’t it!
Please do be aware that I work with the sidereal zodiac, which considers astrology from the actual placement of the stars in the current time. You can check this out for a quick 101 on Sidereal Astrology.
Sidereal Libra – November 5th to November 24th
The Sun actually rises in the constellation of Libra from 5th November through to 24th November – so we don’t get much time in this balanced season! Libra is a small constellation and so its season runs for less than 3 weeks. And, yes if you read up about sidereal astrology, these dates are not set in stone, over almost three quarters of a century the dates will change by one day, in accordance with precession.
This is a big change from Tropical Western astrology dates for Libra (23rd September – 23rd October), there is no overlap at all, and this can result in a bit of an identity crisis! If you feel strongly attached to your Libra personality it is probably because it is still a strong energy in your astrological chart, even if your sun does not technically sit in this sign. You may have a Libra moon, a Libra rising, or a stellium (2 or more planets) in Libra. The best way to check this out and reconnect with yourself through true sidereal astrology is to do a reading with me!
So Who Needs to Really Read this?
People who are born between November 4th (NB see above comment about the dates changing; what this means is depending on how old the person is they may have been born into Libra season even if they were born on the 4th November, check with me) and November 24th. Being born between these dates means that your ‘Sun’ sign is in Libra and you identify as a Libra. You most likely see yourself as balanced, peace loving and perceptive.
People who know their astrology chart and can identify that either their Moon or their Ascendant (Rising) is in the sign of Libra.
* If your Moon is in Libra this means that you need to feel Libra qualities for your emotional wellbeing – you need to have harmonious companionship and partnership with others, and to be affirmed by them
* If your Ascendant/ Rising sign is Libra, this means that this is the sign that was on the Eastern horizon when you were born and it is what you are becoming and developing through this life. You are working towards recognition in the eyes of others for your charm and great taste!
Lastly, again for those who can read their astrological birth chart, if you have Libra on the cusp of your 6th house, or indeed anywhere in your 6th house, this is the house of health & wellbeing (amongst other things) so it is pertinent for you. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, again go back to this first Blog in the series for more information on Houses.
Also of course if you are in a significant relationship (parent, child, partner, lover, close friend or colleague) with someone who has Libra Sun, Moon or Ascendant (or 6th House) then this could be useful information for you! Enjoy!
Libra is our second of the three Air signs in the zodiac – and tends to be a very idealistic and intuitive energy.
If you need any more reminders about what the Air element means in the zodiac, head back to the piece about Gemini, which was the first Air sign.
You may remember that Gemini was all about mental activity – learning, thinking and communicating is what Gemini loves to do. Libra’s airiness is more in the realm of emotional activity. Libra loves love, and romance, and can be quite fickle or moody. Although driven to seek partnerships, Libra’s Air quality means that it likes to keep things light, it doesn’t want to be alone but it also doesn’t want to feel burdened within a relationship.
The Wheel of the Year
Western Tropical Astrology continues to make the association between the seasons and the zodiac, and this often only works well in the Northern hemisphere. Libra season in this context is early Autumn. In Sidereal astrology Libra season is late Autumn in the northern hemisphere, and late Spring in the southern hemisphere.
At both of these times the Air element is vivid – blowing the leaves about in Autumn and the pollen about in Spring. At both these times the weather can fluctuate a lot – like the mood of Libra – from wet to dry and from warm to cool, but overall nature is striving for balance, and to reach a point of homeostasis during this Libra time of year. Of course Spring resonates a lot better with the Libra energy of romance than Autumn. But again, both seasons are very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye with the flowers and new growth of Spring, and the brilliant colours of autumn.
Venus and the Scales
Libra is the second constellation ruled by Venus. The first one was Taurus, and you can see in both signs the attraction to beauty, pleasure and the arts – this is the influence of their mutual ruler, Venus. But where earthy Taurus is quite inclined to become too bogged down by indulgence, airy Libra resists being trapped in any way.
The symbol of Libra is the Scales. The Scales represent the energy of the pursuit of balance, of diplomacy and of justice.
The Seventh House
In astrology, the chart is divided into 12 houses, which refer to 12 different areas of life. If a planet or a sign is ‘in a house’ this will give us the information about which area of life their energetic affect is going to be felt in.
Each of the signs ‘rules’ one of the houses. This means that they each have a particular area of life in which they are most comfortable, they have a natural affinity to it.
Libra, as the seventh sign, rules the seventh house. The seventh house is all about significant relationships and partnerships. This certainly refers to romance but also to business partnerships and important friendships, it simply talks about how you relate to others. As the ‘court room’ of the zodiac, the seventh house also rules contracts of all types, and law suits.
Each sign of the zodiac also has a particular body type associated with it, but this is largely based on the elements, so typically all Air types will have a similar body type, which is generally light, thin, delicate.
Due to their Cardinal mode Librans can tend towards many collisions with others – afterall they are constantly seeking relationship – and also the environment, which means that they can be prone to contagious diseases and accidents.
It is common for people to have the body type that equates to their rising sign element because it is in the 1st House, which concerns image and body. This is not always true though and your body type may relate more to the most dominant element in your chart, or a combination of that and your rising sign. From an eastern medical point of view the Libra constitution tends to be warm and moist.
Libra rules the following body parts:
All endocrine glands and hormones
Kidneys, ureters, bladder
Physical balance and the eustachian tubes
Acid/ alkaline balance
Homeostasis and metabolism (Thyroid)
Ovaries and Fallopian tubes
What this means is that Libra can tend towards ailments in these areas, common ones are:
Injuries to and illnesses in the above body parts
High blood pressure or skin problems resulting from kidney issues
The Creation Energy is the energy of significant relationships. The Love Energy is the energy that allows us to give and receive love, and to be open to others and have compassion for them.
Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing approaches to health and wellbeing for Virgo
Movement does not come naturally to Librans, it takes a lot of effort to get them going!
Due to their search for connection with others social sports may work well.
Exercising outdoors in fresh air is particularly beneficial.
As they love music dance is another wonderful form of movement for Librans.
With the rulership of Venus, Libra tends to love sleep and anything else ‘indulgent’ in life so generally they should be good at prioritizing sleep.
The only risk to the Libran sleep schedule could be their tendency to sacrifice their own needs to adapt to those of others. This is not an area to be too flexible, Librans – sleep is essential to your wellbeing.
Being around others is essential for the wellbeing of Librans, especially people whom they love
Fresh air is essential – open windows and doors whenever possible, invest in an air purifier if your air quality is not good, get outside!
Herbs to eat – celery, dandelion, parsley, alfalfa
There are a lot of herbs that are useful for Libra and which ones are most appropriate for you will depend on what symptoms/ conditions you are trying to manage. Some of the common ones to use in teas are:
Virgos will need peaceful, beautiful surroundings to recover from illness, or life!
Rose – the oil of divine love: promotes sense of being loved and accepted
Birch – the oil of support: promotes strength and resolve, as well as the feeling of being connected
Black Pepper – the oil of unmasking: promotes courage and authenticity through self-awareness
Cedarwood – the oil of community: promotes emotional connection and social bonds
Cypress – the oil of motion and flow: promotes adaptability, trust and letting go
Geranium –the oil of love and trust: promotes love, tolerance, empathy
Siberian Fir –the oil of ageing & perspective: promotes perspective, wisdom, adaptability
