Here we are in adventurous, expansive Sagittarius season – the perfect energy with which to welcome a new year.
Please do be aware that I work with the true sidereal zodiac, which considers astrology from the actual placement of the stars in the current time. You can check this out for a quick 101 on Sidereal Astrology.
Sidereal Sagittarius – December 20th to January 21st
The Sun actually rises in the constellation of Sagittarius from 20th December 2021 through to 21st January 2022. I am currently based in Melbourne, Australia so depending on where you are in the world the change of sign may occur across the dateline and be a day ‘earlier’ than it is for me. And, yes if you read up about sidereal astrology, these dates are not set in stone, over almost three quarters of a century the dates will change by one day, in accordance with precession.
As we have seen for the last few signs, Sidereal Sagittarius dates are a big change from Tropical Western astrology dates for Sagittarius (22nd November – 21st December). The difference is almost a month with only a couple of days of overlap and this can result in a bit of an identity crisis! If you feel strongly attached to your Sagittarius personality it is probably because it is still a strong energy in your astrological chart, even if your sun does not actually sit in this sign. You may have a Sagittarius moon, a Sagittarius rising, or a stellium (2 or more planets) in Sagittarius. The best way to check this out and reconnect with yourself through true sidereal astrology is to do a reading with me!
So Who Needs to Really Read this?
- People who are born between December 19th (NB see above comment about the dates changing; what this means is depending on how old the person is they may have been born into Sagittarius season even if they were born on the 19th December, check with me) and January 21st. Being born between these dates means that your ‘Sun’ sign is in Sagittarius and you identify as a Sagittarius. You most likely see yourself as adventurous, open minded and positive
- People who know their astrology chart and can identify that either their Moon or their Ascendant (Rising) is in the sign of Sagittarius.
* If your Moon is in Sagittarius this means that you need to feel Sagittarius qualities for your emotional wellbeing – you need to be well liked, as well as to see justice for all, but to always maintain your own freedom
* If your Ascendant/ Rising sign is Sagittarius, this means that this is the sign that was on the Eastern horizon when you were born and it is what you are becoming and developing through this life. You are working towards a broad based philosophical approach to and trust in life
Lastly, again for those who can read their astrological birth chart, if you have Sagittarius on the cusp of your 6th house, or indeed anywhere in your 6th house, this is the house of health & wellbeing (amongst other things) so it is pertinent for you. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, again go back to this first Blog in the series for more information on Houses.
Also of course if you are in a significant relationship (parent, child, partner, lover, close friend or colleague) with someone who has Sagittarius Sun, Moon or Ascendant (or 6th House) then this could be useful information for you! Enjoy!
Mutable Fire
Sagittarius is the last of the three Fire signs in the zodiac – and is a restless, constantly moving energy that has been transformed in the depths of Scorpio and Ophiuchus to now reach up and out – seeking widely for experiences to create the wisdom it needs for fulfillment.
If you need any more reminders about what the Fire element means in the zodiac, head back to the piece about Aries, which was the first Fire sign.
With Aries the Fire energy was about initiative and action, with Leo it was about creation and expression, and now with Sagittarius it’s about exploration and expanding horizons.
The Wheel of the Year
Western Tropical Astrology continues to make the association between the seasons and the zodiac, and this often only works well in the Northern hemisphere. Sagittarius season in this context is late Autumn/ early Winter. In Sidereal astrology Sagittarius season is early Winter in the northern hemisphere and early Summer in the southern hemisphere.
Certainly we can take the fire element here as a seasonal indicator – the hot fire of summery weather, or the hot fire we need to get through the winter. The travel vibe of Sagittarius also comes into play with the season – heading away for summer holidays or travelling to be with loved ones for the ‘holiday season’.
Jupiter and the Archer
The sign of Sagittarius is ruled by expanding, gaseous Jupiter. We can feel the Jupiter quality in Sagittarius, with its sense of possibility and idealism.
The symbol of Sagittarius is the Archer. The most important thing about the Archer is the arrow, which gets fired up and out into the world, sometimes travelling long distances, to seek that which is not yet known.
The Ninth House
In astrology, the chart is divided into 12 houses, which refer to 12 different areas of life. If a planet or a sign is ‘in a house’ this will give us the information about which area of life their energetic affect is going to be felt in.
Each of the signs ‘rules’ one of the houses. This means that they each have a particular area of life in which they are most comfortable, they have a natural affinity to it.
Sagittarius, as the ninth sign, rules the ninth house. The ninth house is all about expansion. Its focus is on higher learning, that which occurs in the school of life, as well as formal higher education. Spirituality, religion, philosophy and wisdom sit here. The ninth house is also where we find long journeys (both physical and metaphysical) and foreign travel.
Body Aspects
Each sign of the zodiac also has a particular body type associated with it, but this is largely based on the elements, so typically all Fire types will have a similar body type, which is generally strong and athletic.
With ever expanding Jupiter’s rulership a lean Sagittarian can become rounder as they age!
Sagittarians have good vitality, as a fire sign – they generally live long lives (as long as their risk taking behaviour doesn’t end badly) and have a high pain threshold.
It is common for people to have the body type that equates to their rising sign element because it is in the 1st House, which concerns image and body. This is not always true though and your body type may relate more to the most dominant element in your chart, or a combination of that and your rising sign. If you want to find out for yourself book a session.
From an eastern medical point of view the Sagittarius constitution tends to be Hot and Dry.
Sagittarians have a very positive outlook so on the rare occasions when they are ill they just need a bit of encouragement from their caregivers to recover quickly.
Sagittarius rules the following body parts:
- Thighs, Hips, Buttocks
- Sacrum, Coccyx, Pelvis
- Muscle coordination for locomotion
- Sciatic nerve
- Liver
- Pancreas
- Autonomic nervous system
What this means is that Sagittarius can tend towards ailments in these areas, common ones are:
- Injuries to and illnesses in the above body parts
- Accidents due to their recklessness and love of speed
- Falls
- Bites, stings and cuts
- Blood sugar dis-regulation
- Burnout and nervous system exhaustion
- Gout
Sagittarius and Chakras
When thinking about the relationship between Sagittarius and the 7 Essential Energies, or Chakras, Sagittarius has strong connections to the 4th(Love) Energy Centre, or Heart Chakra, and the 7th (Connection) Energy Centre, or Crown Chakra.
The Love Energy allows us to be open and expansive, the Connection Energy gives us a sense of connection with everything outside of ourselves.
Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing approaches to health and wellbeing for Sagittarius
Movement
Sagittarians have difficulty sitting still so movement is probably not something they need to work on too much. Always bringing in new types of movement will be rewarding for Sagis.
Sagittarians can be great athletes but they get clumsy when their body or nervous system is too tired.
Yoga and pilates to work on stretching hip joints.
Sagis will love riding things – horses, bikes, jet skis, etc.
Sleep
Doing lots of physical activity will help Sagittarians to fall asleep.
Like all Fire signs, Sagittarians are prone to burn out, so sleep is essential to balance the nervous system and promote cleansing and self healing of the brain overnight.
Being
- Slow down – get into nature and just breathe
- Breath focussed meditations
- Energy healing helps balance an overstimulated nervous system – reiki, kinesiology, acupuncture
- Bach flower: Agrimony (there are others that are very useful depending on what exactly you are managing, contact me for more details)
Food
- Feed a Sagittarius grains, greens and grasses just like a horse!
- Fresh vegetables and fruits (7-10 cups per day) – including parsnip, asparagus, cucumber, strawberries, onions, figs, cabbage, cherries
- Grains – rice, oats, barley, rye, wheat
- Meat – as hunters Sagis usually like and need to eat meat
- Avoid sugar, alcohol and drugs due to tendency to overindulge
- Generally maintain moderation in gourmet foods. Restrictive diets don’t work well for freedom loving Sagis so it’s best for them to consistently moderate their consumption, especially later in life
- Silica (mineral) foods – oats, rye, rice, figs, strawberries, prunes, parsnips, cherries, fruit & vegetable skins
- Herbs to eat – horseradish, artichoke, celery, dandelion, wild yam
Herbs
There are a lot of herbs that are useful for Sagittarius and which ones are most appropriate for you will depend on what symptoms/ conditions you are trying to manage. Some of the common ones to use in teas are:
- Nettle
- Dandelion
- St Johns Wort
Surroundings
Essential Oils
- Helichrysum – the oil for Pain: promotes hope, transformation and healing
- Siberian Fir – the oil of Ageing & Perspective: promotes perspective, wisdom, adaptability
- Star Anise – the oil of Soulful Femininity: promotes wholeness, expansion, reawakening
- Ylang Ylang– the oil of the Inner Child: promotes playfulness, joyfulness and emotional connection
