Spring Equinox

In September, we are so lucky today to be able to celebrate both the Spring Equinox, which occurs on Saturday 22nd, and the September full moon, which occurs on Monday 24th, and sits in the sign of Aries.

Spring Equinox

We have two points in the year where the length of the day and the night are equal – one in autumn and one in spring.  This is because at these points Mother Earth lies flat in her orbit of the sun, so neither the north, nor the south pole are tilted away from the sun, allowing access to equal amounts of life giving solar energy everywhere on our planet.

From this point forward, here in the southern hemisphere, we gradually get more and more daylight until summer solstice, in the second half of December.

From an energetic point of view, this position in the astrological calendar is a very important celebration of the return of the force of life itself, after the cold, dark, dormant winter period. It is at this point that light overpowers dark – which is a forceful archetypal concept in most cultures, and definitely in ours. We need light to survive! Spring brings with it is the opportunity for new beginnings.

New Beginnings

This year we have also had heavy astrological energy over winter with 3 eclipses and multiple retrogrades – meaning that planets and their energies are in hiding – so you may really have felt like you had a big winter doona pulled over you, weighting you down, for the last few months!  We do also seem to have had a lot of weather to match this mood with very cold temperatures, and a lot of rain!

The energy of spring, in both nature, and humanity, is one of creative growth.  Spring gives you a chance to revive the areas of your life that have become stagnant or non-existent. What do you need to breathe new life into: having a sense of hope?, passion for something you used to love?, looking after your health?, following your intuition?, going with your heart instead of your head?  With the sun shining fully on the earth, there is a new level of energy available to you.  You need to build up your own energetic resources, to renew yourself, in order to renew your life.

The dormancy of winter becomes uncomfortable in spring, providing you with the motivation to renew and change. If change requires taking a chance or taking a risk, now is the time, because the energy of spring is in harmony with growth and reaching out, so you can expect successful change to result from going with this ‘flow’, just as a plant unfurls new growth and blossoms appear. By connecting with the waltz of nature, you connect to your own being.

Full Moon in Aries

The energy of new beginnings, such as that provided at the time of the Spring Equinox, is actually more akin to the energy of a new moon than a full moon.  Full moon energy is usually provides us with support to finish and close off things that are no longer serving us. However, the universe has our back (as always!) and because this full moon is in Aries it’s a little different to most others. As the first sign in the zodiac, Aries is all about initiative – so perfect for Spring! Aries wants us to look forward, which is what we are being pulled towards with Spring Equinox energy too!  Aries is very forceful so you may find yourself becoming impatient about the pace of change, but luckily the sun is also in balancing Libra at this time which should mean that our frustration is low level and short lived.

As mentioned earlier, the full moon always provides us with the energetic support to finish and close off things that are no longer serving us.  Although the energy of the Spring Equinox and Aries Full Moon is very motivational and forward looking we can still always find that there are things that we need to let go of in order to allow new energy to move in, and action to take place, in the process of manifesting our desires.  Take the opportunity to let go of what is no longer serving you this full moon so that you can make the changes you need to take in order to lead your best life.
