I much prefer to talk about intentions for the new year, rather than resolutions! The word 'intention' to me has a much deeper, internal, more feminine energy than 'resolution', which sounds so external and hard! The best time for writing intentions for the new year is arguably with the first new moon of the year - as this energy always supports us to the sow the seeds of what we want to reap in the future. I recommend a 3 list approach to writing your intentions for the new year, I discuss this approach in this video and also the full Blog, which was published by Sivana East. I also suggest taking a very holistic approach of looking at your life with regards to what intentions you want to set. To make this easier you might like to consider the Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing aspects of Food, Movement, Sleep, Surroundings and Being. Our first Yin Yoga, Meditation and Reiki Circle of 2019 will give you the opportunity to truly release what is no longer serving you, providing the space to bring in what you want to bring in for the year. May 2019 bring you Peace & Freedom, Love & Happiness and Health & Wellbeing!

In south eastern Australia we are well and truly into the wintery weather! A week of grey skies and rain here in Melbourne has certainly taken its toll on my mood! But I am so grateful for the beauty of my garden and the fullness of my water tanks! When we hit winter unfortunately many of the nasty viruses that lurk around seem to proliferate and most people struggle to get through the season without at least one cold or other respiratory infection of some kind. Our bodies are designed to heal themselves so rather than reaching for the cold and flu tablets what else can you do to avoid and overcome winter viruses? Metaphysics of getting a cold When we have a cold or flu our body is giving us a message to STOP. When your grandmother used to tell you to “rest and keep up your fluids’ when you had a cold she was perfectly correct. Unfortunately though in modern Western society the norm is to ‘soldier on’ and keep leading our normal lives whilst masking the symptoms of our illness with medication. The inherent harm of treating symptoms rather than underlying causes is blatantly obvious here! How many times have you soldiered on, and thought you had weathered the storm, only to be bedridden by the tornado of a much more serious illness a few weeks later?
Hello again and here’s hoping that your Silly Season is progressing along quite nicely and that you have taken on the previous 2 episodes’ helpful information about how and why it is important that you ensure – at this time of year especially – that you are getting enough good quality sleep and eating well even when you are short on time. If you missed these episodes then please check out the Blog on my website or my Facebook page. Have you ever had a hangover? Don’t forget that Santa is watching how you answer that question!! Sadly, most people who drink alcohol, would almost undoubtedly answer ‘yes’! It is very easy to get carried away when you are having a few drinks with friends or colleagues at one of the many functions that occur during the Silly Season, having a great time, perhaps really enjoying the escape that being a little ‘under the influence’ can provide – especially when life in general is pretty stressful. Before you know it, you’ve had way more than a standard drink per hour, and you’ve quite possibly also not eaten much or consumed much water. The next day you may really pay for your overindulgence. What is a hangover? A hangover is really just a large group of potential symptoms that occur when you have consumed too much alcohol. The over-consumption of alcohol
It’s okay, in 6 weeks Christmas will all be over for another year! If that sentence just sent your blood pressure skyrocketing then this Blog is for you! Sleep in the Silly Season As if we didn’t have enough pressure on us during the rest of the year, the last 6-8 weeks of the year in Australia are absolutely crazy. Not only do we have all the things being added to our to-do lists with Christmas celebrations but we are also heading into the long summer holiday period over January and for that reason everyone seems to behave like the world is going to end on the 25th December! There are school concerts, carols, presentation nights, work end of year parties, relatives coming to stay for much longer than you might like, and on top of that all the people whom you’ve barely seen all year suddenly just have to catch up with you ‘before Christmas’!!! Often the first thing to suffer with all this extra stuff going on is your sleep. I have done two other pieces recently about sleep but I am talking about it again today because it has proven to be a VERY popular topic. Sleep is a super common wellbeing concern and for this reason I want to keep talking about it and providing useful information, especially when it’s going to help you get through
If you are seeing this blog or video whilst lying in bed then turn it off right now…it can wait until morning!! The Digital Elephant is clearly in your bedroom! Sleeping with the Enemy! So, you sleep with your phone/ tablet/ laptop (NB for the rest of this article I will just use the word phone, but please insert whichever screen device applies to you!)? What is wrong with that I hear you ask? The main problem is that it can have a major effect on your sleep – both physiologically and emotionally. Not getting enough good quality sleep is detrimental to your health in both the long and short term. In the short term obviously you feel tired, you are less motivated to do all the things you should do to look after yourself, you will be less productive and potentially then become stressed about what you are not achieving (check out my blog on the relationship between stress and productivity), you will potentially be short tempered and impatient with other people you are dealing with and you will probably resort to ‘quick’ fixes like caffeine and sugar to give you a boost, neither of which provide you with any nutritional value and can be potentially harmful in themselves. In the long term, not getting enough sleep interferes with all physiological processes of the body, most importantly the immune
Trouble Sleeping – which essential oils should you use? If you, or anyone in your household, have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep there are some fantastic essential oils that can be very useful. Why is this important? Because sleep is SO crucial to overall wellbeing. If we don’t get enough sleep then our brains cannot function effectively. This has an impact on our ability to concentrate and make decisions. In turn this can then increase the risk of incidents and accidents and of course it can have a negative effect on all aspects of our lives – work, relationships, motivation to exercise and eat right. Even worse are the effects of chronic sleep deprivation, which include increased incidence of depression and anxiety, as well as numerous other physical health conditions such as heart disease, weight gain, diabetes and infertility. Most worrying is the reduction in the effectiveness of the immune system caused by not sleeping enough on an ongoing basis. So not only is sleep deprivation not helping to improve your overall wellbeing, it is actually actively working to reduce it! What are essential oils? Essential oils are volatile aromatic plant compounds that have been used for thousands of year and have effects on all energetic levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. For this reason they can be amazingly effective in assisting with improving the quality and
