Back to School Essential Oils [Originally published 1st February 2020] This week marks the end of summer holidays for many families in Australia. For the second year in a row we have had a festive season summer break that kept us on our toes and a lot closer to home than we may have preferred, but as I just discussed with my 15 year old - at least we got a break. It seemed a little bit crazy to really feel in need of some time off after a 2020 where it felt like not much happened! Anyway now we're getting back into the swing of 'normal life' and for many people that's going to feel perhaps just as strange and stressful as Covid! What a great opportunity to talk about some wonderful Back to School Essential Oils! February is the time of the year that we all get deeply into the creation and production of the year’s work and after 2020 the start of this new year I hope you have abundant energy to really make a clean start. To help get you and your loved ones back on track at this time I wanted to share my suggestions for essential oils to support you in the transition into the reality of 2021! The therapeutic properties of essential oils are such that they can help you on all levels:
Your gut microbiome is super important to overall health and is the first topic in this new video series called "One Thing I Know". Your gastrointestinal microbiota ("gut microbiome') consists of trillions of bacteria that reside in the digestive tract. They are imperative for effective digestive function and also for immunity. At any point your gut microbiome are either increasing or decreasing overall inflammation in your your body. Inflammation is the natural response of the body to fight infection and disease but when it becomes disregulated chronic illness can result. I am constantly updating my knowledge by reading books and listening to podcasts and taking courses. A big part of my whole reason for doing what I do is to help people to be better able to improve and maintain their own wellbeing so therefore I love to be able to share new things that I learn. I recently listened to an episode of the Low Top Life podcast (which I HIGHLY recommend) where Alexx was interviewing one of the world's most pre-eminent specialists in the microbiota, Dr Jason Hawrelak. The chat covers some of the other microbiota that are important to consider including the nasal microbiome and the vaginal microbiome, but something that really leapt out at me was the bit about how to best manage the gut micobiome when we have to take a course of antibiotics. The third week in multi-coloured March – filled with weather of all varieties (here in Victoria at least!), the last of the summer fruits and the first of the winter ones – brings us a super special time to celebrate both the Full Moon (in Libra this month) and the Autumn Equinox. Their energies are very complementary supporting release and balance. Bring the Yin back in Autumn is the time of year where we can take the hint from the leaves on the trees and really start to let go of the things that have become hard and dry and no longer nourish us. The leaves that were green – the beating heart of the tree, allowing the plant to feed itself – are changing. Their colours are turning orange and red and reminding us that we need to begin to ground again, to return to the energies of our sacral and root chakras, to reconnect with the earth – to slow and turn inwards again, accessing our own Yin energy once more after the firey heat and outward focussed Yang energy of summer. Traditionally Autumn is a time to harvest and celebrate the glorious gifts we are receiving but at this time we also need to acknowledge that the soil, the earth that provides our food, now needs to rest. The warmth of summer is gently nestling behind us and

March New Moon The March new moon occurred when most of us were fast asleep, just before 3am on the morning of Thursday 7thMarch. We can always look forward to new moon energy to help us to set goals and intentions for the coming month. This March new moon is however in the watery sign of Pisces, and so we are really best served to go with the energetic flow – less thinking, more being. This energy continues through until the next full moon on 21st March. It is hard in our left-brain centric world to feel that we can surrender conscious thought and planning, and instead just allow the space for what is meant to come into our lives, to come. At this time we still need to have a clear vision of what it is that we want – the universe will only be confused otherwise – and simply ask for it. Release & Trust Release the need to know how or when your desired person, thing, or outcome will be manifested into your physical world and simply trust that it will.
