We have 7 main energy centres in the body. These energy centres operate on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Different systems call the energy centres different names, but almost all traditional systems of medicine recognise these energy centres as well as other minor energy centres, and energy pathways. In my practice I refer to the energy centres as the Chakras – which comes from the Indian tradition. Many energy healers work with the Chakras. Chakras are areas where the body is very open to receiving energy, from all sources. When it becomes imbalanced the flow of energy into the chakra is depleted or even prevented. Unless you have been away in Timbuktu for the last few years with no wifi you have almost certainly heard about intermittent fasting (IF)! You may have wondered if it is something that you should try. You may have questions about it – what does it actually involve, what can you eat, what are the benefits, is it a great way to lose weight for everyone, etc, etc? If you are one of the almost 65% of Australian adults who are overweight you may be carefully considering IF as a possible way to take control of your health. Although it almost seems like it’s trendy to be overweight these days there are serious health implications that arise from being too heavy. How many elderly obese people do you see around? Not many, because they do not live long, healthy happy lives. This is a really important concern when thinking about your overall wellbeing, from a mental and emotional standpoint as well. The relationship between Self Confidence and your 3rd Chakra If you have problems with self confidence then it may well be the case that your Third Chakra is out of balance! The 7 Chakras are the main energy centres of the body and are active on all energetic levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. There are many other smaller energy centres in the body that follow the energy pathways, or meridians. The third chakra is located in the top half of your abdomen – between your belly button and the bottom of your rib cage. It is otherwise known as the Solar Plexus and its proper name is Manipura. The third chakra is THE power centre of the body and is strongly associated with self confidence, self esteem and self worth. It also affects our levels of motivation and ‘get up and go’!! If your concept of yourself is less than positive then this can indicate that this critical energy centre is out of balance.
In January I went on a Pacific Islands cruise to improve my Wellbeing. I have to say that I was absolutely appalled that out of the thousands of people on board the ship there were only 6-8 of us who regularly got up to do the FREE exercise classes at 7am. I know that on holidays people love the idea of sleeping in but seriously peeps, there was so much over-consumption, and so many opportunities for afternoon/ morning/ evening naps that I just don't get it. Unfortunately not enough people care about looking after themselves apparently. There were also many free lectures about various aspects of physical wellbeing. These were reasonably well attended, after-all it only involved making it to a particular bar at a certain time and sitting on your arse!! Anyway, there were 2 personal trainers on the ship who looked after all the exercise activities - both practical and theory. They may not have been great at yoga but they were great at stretching and abs of steel classes! Anyway, one of them would make us plank for longer periods of time each class and was quite open that on the last day we would be planking for 5 minutes!! I did not think that I could do this! However when it came down to it peer group pressure turned out to be a wonderful thing. I nailed
