Mould: the phantom menace

Many very common symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, respiratory congestion and brain fog can be caused by a silent and often-undiagnosed household toxin - mould! This video discusses how and when to look into whether mould may be causing your wellbeing issues and what to do about it.  If you would prefer to read my Blog on the topic, it was published by the Wellness Universe. This topic falls into one of the aspects of Evenstar 5 Star Wellbeing - Surroundings.  I also cover some simple steps to take to reduce the risk of mould becoming a problem in your home: Open up: open doors and windows as often as possible, fresh moving air is the enemy of mould! Clean regularly: vacuum and dust, change linens Dehumidify: if you live in a humid climate, or your home has been diagnosed as damp, a dehumidifier will help to reduce the moisture build up that mould loves Indoor plants: plants naturally remove toxins from the air, and of course they also produce oxygen so they will make a big improvement on the quality of the air in your home (or workplace) Use essential oils: NB. definitely do not use artificial air fresheners – they are literally adding toxins into your surroundings by masking unpleasant smells with chemicals. Tea tree oil is anti-fungal and has a beautiful fresh aroma, it is literally

The Breath of Life

Do you ever find yourself holding your breath when you’re uptight or stressed or even for no apparent reason? Do you often feel lightheaded or like your brain is fuzzy after a long period of concentration on something important? We often don’t realise when we are really not breathing effectively and the problem with this is that it can have an ongoing negative effect on your wellbeing. Breath is Life Your breath is literally life-giving. If you are not breathing deeply (or not breathing at all for a short period) you are not taking life in! Let me be clear here, it is not a problem to occasionally hold your breath, and sometimes it is actually advisable – such as when you are going under water or when you walk past a smoker! Some activities such as target shooting and even yoga require you to hold your breath as a part of the practice – this is all okay! However, when you find yourself frequently holding your breath or taking short shallow breaths, this is when you have a problem! Stop right now and focus on your breath! It is often only when you focus that you can slow down and regulate your breathing and check that you are really breathing deeply. When you take a true deep inhalation your whole belly should expand as the diaphragm contracts, extending the

Cold and Flu – which essential oils are useful?

Cold and Flu - which essential oils are useful?  Are you, or someone you care for, suffering through multiple colds and flus this winter?  If so then these videos should be very useful.  It is a series of videos (Part 1 and Part 2) about which essential oils I recommend using when you or someone you are caring for is coming down with, or already suffering from, a cold or flu. I will talk about how our bodies are actually designed to heal themselves. When we have a cold or flu our body is giving us a message to STOP.  The traditional treatment for cold and flu of 'resting and keeping up your fluids' is actually spot on!  Unfortunately listening to our bodies and giving them time to rest and recover is not readily accepted in today's Western society.  We are expected to 'soldier on' with a cold and keep doing everything we would normally do.  Because of this societal expectation allopathic cold and flu 'remedies' are readily available that treat the symptoms of the illness and therefore allow us to keep going with our normal lives.  However, this actually slows down and prevents the natural healing processes of your body.  You cough to remove irritants, you have excess mucous production because your body is protecting and moisturising itself, you have a fever because your body is fighting the infection.

I’m feeling sick – should I have Reiki?

A client - and dear friend - rang me today to cancel her appointment because she has come down with a nasty cold, unfortunately a few days before she is flying overseas!  She was booked in for an aromatherapy massage, and as she was suffering from nasal congestion and feeling a bit feverish the idea of taking off her clothes and lying face down for 45 minutes was not appealing!  She was also concerned about giving me her germs. My first reaction was, of course, sympathy!  My second reaction was that my clients should not ever worry about giving me their illness.  I told Jules that I could protect myself, and I meant it most sincerely!  As Reiki Master I will always ensure that I protect myself from taking on the energies of other people and my use of essential oils gives me (and clients) added protection, through diffusing oils that have anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-septic properties to ward off any germs that may lurk in my treatment room!  Really, would you not go to see your GP because you were sick and didn't want to give them your germs?  No, of course not.  My dream is that in the future more people will go to an energy healer as their first point of call for treatment of any illness.* Most illnesses have their origins in your energetic body.  In

Winter Remedies – Nasal & Chest Congestion

I had a meeting with my lovely digital marketing guru Lainie, last week, and she was really under the weather with a runny nose and feeling very chesty. We had a lot to get through and limited time so unfortunately I couldn't give her any Reiki (I do keep offering though!) When she left I plied her with two fantastic doTerra products that I use all the time, especially with my kids over winter. Firstly, the Easy Air, or Breathe, oil blend that is a fantastic natural alternative to Vicks vapour rub to use aromatically (in a diffuser) or topically - on your chest and throat, and the bottoms of your feet. This will help to clear your airways and can be used at night to aid with sleeping without disturbing the whole family, as well as during the day to soldier on through school or work. I also gave Lainie some On Guard throat lozenges which I have to say my children don't like ('too spicy') but the On Guard products are my go-to as soon as anyone around me has even an inkling that they are coming down with a cold. Watch out for another post about On Guard soon and in the meantime visit our shop to check out our full Essential Oils range.
