Many of us don’t have enough play in our lives. I am certainly guilty of this! It’s mainly being self-employed that does it for me – I find it hard to prioritise play! I don’t skimp on spending time to look after my wellbeing – I take all the time necessary to shop for and cook fresh organic food to nourish myself, I spend 1-2 hours exercising most days, I am pretty careful to ensure that I get enough good quality sleep and I keep my surroundings as toxin-free as possible. But I don’t prioritise doing stuff just for fun. If I make a commitment to catch up with friends then I will always stick to that but I rarely initiate catch-ups myself these days. I always make sure that I have some quality time with my kids – dinner time conversations, going to the footy, seeing movies we all want to see. But when I am left to my own devices I will spend every possible minute working! I am lucky because I do actually love what I do and am very passionate about it but I don’t love that I would feel somewhat guilty if I took a day off to go bushwalking or I spent the night just binge watching Netflix or taking an hour to have a bath. Ironically I began writing this piece and then got
I wrote this in this week after Mother’s Day because I wanted to acknowledge those women who have found that conceiving and giving birth to a child is not necessarily an easy thing. You may have experienced the very difficult birth of a now healthy child or you may have lost a child during birth, or you may have lost a child before it was even born through miscarriage. All of these experiences are traumatizing. Literally, this is a trauma that will remain a part of your story for the rest of your life. I know because I have been there myself. I had 3 miscarriages in total, two before my now oldest son was born and one in between my two ‘successful’ pregnancies, when I was trying to fall pregnant for the second time. I was lucky in that my losses came very early, all within the first trimester. For the first two I was overseas – the first one happened in China and the second in the UK. When I had my second miscarriage my then husband was all the way back in Australia for work, but luckily my brother and his new wife were living in Scotland so they took the train down to London to be with me. I think that the biggest problem with miscarriage or stillbirth is that not only are you grieving a loss for
Are you trying to fall pregnant or even thinking about trying? Perhaps you’ve been doing all the things that your doctor tells you to do – exercising, losing weight, taking multi-vitamins and not drinking caffeine or alcohol. But have you been preparing the other energetic levels of your body – mental, emotional and spiritual – for conception and pregnancy? Many women, although they put lots of effort into preparing their physical body in order to conceive do not do the same for all the other areas of their wellbeing, and the problem with this approach is that they are only 30% prepared! All energetic levels are equal and in fact the physical level is the lowest, or last, level of importance. The most critical work to do is on your mind and spirit when dealing with any health concern. Key Negative Emotions There are a three key emotional aspects to be aware of when preparing for conception – fear, guilt and self-love. It is important to remember that things on the emotional, mental and spiritual energetic levels do not necessarily manifest themselves on the conscious plane. You may not be aware of how or why you are feeling an emotion. You may look at the name of the emotion and not recognise that it applies to you. Research into epigenetics is now showing that in fact our emotions can be
Wow! Only 3 weeks to go until C-Day!!! How are you going with keeping your wellbeing intact so far? Hopefully you have caught my other Silly Season Survival Tips, covering sleep, food and hangovers? If not check them out via the links or on my Facebook page. Gift giving is a big part of the Silly Season, whether or not you celebrate Christmas, there are still end of year gifts to buy for colleagues, teachers, service providers, etc. Does this tie you up in knots? Do you over analyse and overthink every gift you have to buy? Do you frequently overspend? Do you become paralysed by our compare and despair culture and put off your shopping until the last minute? If any of these things are true for you then this blog will help! Accentuate the Positive Let’s start with the positive stuff! It has been scientifically proven that giving actually brings more pleasure and happiness than receiving! Just think of the great benefit to your own wellbeing of giving gifts! Why not take a moment to express gratitude for this gift within a gift! Also, it is true that it is the thought that counts. Even if you don’t give the ‘perfect’ gift every time, the recipient is still going to feel chuffed that you put in the time and expense of giving them a gift at all! If
How Reiki can help you improve your relationships - the Second Chakra. Do you have a relationship problem? Perhaps your passion for your partner has dwindled, perhaps you feel that there is an ongoing communication breakdown with a close friend, perhaps quality relationships are actually non-existent in your life at the moment. If any of those things are true for you then your Second Chakra - the Sacral or Sexual Chakra - is probably out of balance. The second chakra is the energy centre in charge of passion, creativity, communication and relationships. It is our pleasure centre and is blocked by guilt. In this video I talk about the physical and emotional manifestations of a second chakra imbalance. I also discuss what you can do for yourself to facilitate a better energetic balance in this area and therefore begin to heal your relationships. You should start by forgiving yourself! Of course the ways in which Reiki can help to improve your relationships is also covered! If you want more information about the Second Chakra you might want to buy our Information Sheet. This was what I did last Friday night...Book Group! I was working on my Sacral Chakra by enjoying some of the good things in life (and yes, if you’ve read my sugar blog the cake did have sugar in it!!), and also indulging one of my lifetime passions - reading! I started a book group with my dear friend, Julie, back when our oldest boys were in Grade 1 – wow that’s a long time ago! We have had members come and go but we’ve always had around 10-12 of them. All women, all mums – just because they are the peeps we hang with! We meet monthly and one of the best things about having a book group – apart from the great excuse to gossip and drink wine – is that you get to read stuff you wouldn’t otherwise read. Everyone has the opportunity to suggest a book each year and we always end up with a wonderful patchwork of reading delights. Reading is how I get to sleep at night and generally not something I do any other time of day unless I’m on holidays. I literally could not imagine a life without books! The sacral chakra is all about passion and creativity, as well as relationships, including communication with others. If your sacral chakra is open and balanced you will feel appreciation of the good
